Summer 2021 Recap

As summer comes to an end, I want to highlight some of the best experiences the Bellevue Puppy Raising club and the GDB community have had over the summer. I will also look back on how much Pup Talk has grown over the past few months.

During these couple of months, the Bellevue Puppy Raising Club went on numerous outings and meetings at various venues. The most exciting was definitely riding the Ice Cream Cruise around Seattle’s Lake Union. It was the first boat ride for most of the club’s puppies, yet they were able to stay calm around other passengers and distracting background noises. Meanwhile, the club members were able to enjoy some delicious ice cream on board.

We also had the “Puppy Olympics” in the spirit of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Our puppies in training and career change dogs competed in a variety of challenges that incorporated many puppy training concepts and skills. Winners of each competition received prizes as well!

Speaking of activities, GDB had their annual GDB Fun Week from August 7th to August 14th. Fun activities included making Barkuterie Boards and Kibble Art, GDB family bingo, and the Awkward Family Photos contest. There were also opportunities to learn about unique aspects of GDB and their dogs that many people may not be familiar with. My personal favorite was the “Let’s Talk Teeth'' webinar hosted by the GDB veterinarians!

Titan and I were also able to go on so many outings ourselves this summer and took many photos to document our adventures, and we know you did too! If you have any photos of your puppy in training, guide dog, career change dog, K9 buddy, or other GDB alumni dog, please submit them to our “Summer Fun” Gallery on the Pup Talk website!

Lastly, thank you to everyone who has supported Pup Talk over the past few months; I’ve gotten so much wonderful feedback about the articles from puppy raisers, guide dogs users, and so many others! Since December 2020, we've published over 30 articles and have had over 9500+ readers, many from other countries. Along the way, I've had the chance to learn about accessbility, and the Pup Talk website and Instagram has evolved to maximize accessibility features. Most importantly, I’ve had the chance to talk to so many enthusiastic people involved in GDB. I plan to continue exploring and learning how great this community is. Good luck to all of the puppy raisers and volunteers, clients, and employees! Especially for those who are full time students, puppy raising can be a challenge at times but it’s a great way to get your mind off of school!
