Through the landscapes and rock formations of eleven garden areas Lafcadio Hearn’s story is brought to life, each area reflecting the cultures and mythologies of the places he lived. His life journey can be followed first through the Victorian garden then through the American and Greek gardens which lead on to the Japanese gardens. Visitors can do this by following the story boards on a self guided tour, using audio guides which are available in 5 languages or with a Tour Guide.
Authentic Japanese Structures feature throughout the gardens and include the Azumaya, Ochaya, Sori Bashi Bridge and Niwamon Gate. Visitor Experiences include AV screens, touch screens and a projection of a Japanese tea ceremony in the tea house. Throughout the journey the fascinating story of Hearn’s life is unfolded and there are many references to Irish and Japanese Folklore and Fairytale. Tea, coffee, cakes and snacks are available and these can be enjoyed on the decking area over looking Tramore’s picturesque bay.
Children are introduced to these magical gardens through a special children’s discovery trail, secret pathways, woodlands and Lafcadio Hearn’s fairytales and folklore.
