Taking just 45 minutes to complete, this charming walking and cycling track is generally flat with some gentle slopes and is wheelchair accessible, suitable for family groups and people of all fitness levels.

Following the verdant towpath of the disused Ulster Canal, walkers will spot heritage structures along the waterway and quaint reminders of times past, including three bridges, a lock house and two canal locks.

This wonderful route passes close to many of Monaghan Town’s residential and commercial areas. You’re sure to find a welcoming spot for that post-walk cup of coffee.

Why we like it
  • The Ulster Canal is a disused canal running through part of counties Armagh, Tyrone and Fermanagh in Northern Ireland and County Monaghan in the Republic of Ireland.
  • Those who wish to explore further than the greenway can continue along the Threemilehouse Road by footpath to nearby Rossmore Forest Park.
