Roundstone Music and Crafts is run by Master craftsman Malachy Kearns, better known as Malachy Bodhrán amongst folk musicians, who crafts bodhráns (pronounced bow-rawn) at his Roundstone base in County Galway.
Malachy is respected as a fine bodhrán maker and is one of the only dedicated, full-time bodhrán makers in the world.
A bodhrán is an 18 inch one-sided drum made from goatskin, which has unique stretch properties treated by a traditional process. This musical instrument's name derives from the Irish word 'bodhán' which means deaf or haunting and it produces spirit-stirring music.
Roundstone Music and Crafts is a fine craftman's craft shop that also sells music, fashion and has an adjacent coffee shop. Regular talks and demonstrations are given on the bodhrán. A large private car-park is also provided for visitors.
