Embrace County Louth’s renowned pastoral scenery on this strenuous 9km loop.
Boasting incredible mountain views, vistas over pristine Carlingford Lough and even some island glimpses, this is a truly rewarding trail.
Taking 2.5 hours to complete, the Slieve Foye Loop’s terrain consists of tarmac and forestry roads, grassy track and mountain paths with one rough section which can be boggy and wet in places.
There are some ascents – the initial ascent is very steep – and one descent. Other ascents are more gradual and manageable, while the trail’s overall ascent totals 270m.
Traversing through lush forest, part of this loop also skirts forest edges and some splendid open mountain.
At your trail’s end back in historic Carlingford, you’ll find your pick of cafés, pubs and restaurants to round off the day in.
- Walkers on this loop are treated to simply stunning views along the coast to the north and south, across scenic Carlingford Lough to the Mourne Mountains and in good conditions, even the Isle of Man.
