Located in the heart of Connemara, in Spiddal, County Galway, Standún is a family run store specialising in a variety of Irish produce and gifts. The store is in its third generation having been in operation for more than 60 years.

Opened in 1946, what started as a small store expanded its reach worldwide over the past 72 years, cultivating a reputation for selling Aran knitwear and authentic Irish merchandise overseas.

Now run by Cliona and Laragh Standún, the shop’s selection fuses old with new, honouring their grandparents’ legacy of tradition while offering a variety of modern fashion, homeware and quirky gift ideas.

Standún’s location just 20 minutes from Galway city makes it a must-stop trip. They offer free parking, a wheelchair accessible entrance and stunning views of the sparkling Atlantic Ocean.

Inside, it’s large, bright and airy making browsing a breeze. Explore a diverse range of Aran knitwear, the latest fashion for men and women, adorable kids wear, handcrafted pottery, sleek jewellery and a contemporary home and gifts range. There are lots to choose from whether a Galway native, a visiting traveller, or a family on a day out.

When the post shop munchies kick in, there is freshly brewed coffee and homemade tasty treats in the café every day.

There is also a second store in the village of Oughterard, Galway.
