Strandhill Surf School offers surf lessons for children and adults, as well as stand up paddleboarding. It has an ideal beachfront premises right by the surf. Distance from Sligo is 8 kilometres.

Strandhill Surf School is the centre of surfing in Strandhill, Sligo, Ireland. Located in the adventure hub of the north west, Strandhill beach is a great place to learn to surf, or improve your surfing skills. Come and experience the excitement of surfing and stand up paddleboarding with highly qualified instructors who have valuable knowledge of the local waves. A popular surf school, with a premises right on the beachfront, it ensures easy access to the best surf for lessons. The School offers a variety of lessons catering for individuals, small and large groups and special occasions.

Beginner lessons are the best way to learn the basics of surfing. Each lesson takes three hours with all wetsuit gear and equipment provided. Qualified surf instructors work in the water with you throughout the lesson, which takes place in waist deep water. They ensure you are in the safe location on the beach with quality waves. You will be given tuition on the beach before you hit the waves, although most teaching takes place in the water with instructors giving you constant advice, encouragement and guidance in a controlled environment. The instructors are fully qualified lifeguards. Lessons run all day and are scheduled at different times. All you need to bring is a towel and swimwear. Changing facilities with showers and toilets are available. Both individuals and groups are catered for. If you’ve had lessons before, you can bypass the beginner’s tuition and head straight out into the surf with your own instructor. Children's lessons and summer camps are also available.

Stand Up Paddleboarding

Stand up paddleboarding, or SUP for short, is a fast growing sport. It involves standing on a large, buoyant surfboard and using a paddle to move the board through the water. Ideal if you want to try something new, SUP is an great activity for flat water conditions. The school have a few locations around Strandhill which provide paddleboarding in a picturesque environment. Culleenamore Bay is a beautiful, tidal reserve, home to one of the largest seal sanctuaries around. The pristine waters of Lough Gill, just a short drive from Strandhill, also offer easy paddleboarding with spectacular views of the surrounding forests and mountains. For the more adventurous, flat water conditions at Strandhill Beach are a great option. This is a great, easy going water sports activity! All gear and equipment are provided.
